Volunteers are essential to our work and allow us to continue serving families across our community. Every ramp build is an amazing representation of what can happen when people give their time, energy, and care to help a neighbor in need.
So, what can you expect from a build day?
First, everyone is welcome. We are grateful for individual groups, corporate teams, church groups, community organizations, and anyone else who wants to spend their day working with us. For a build, we typically ask that volunteer groups have a minimum of six people so there are enough hands to safely and efficiently complete the project.
And if you have never picked up a drill before, do not worry. No construction experience is required!
Our Ramp Manager, Gabe Sammons, along with a team of skilled contractors, will be there to guide volunteers through the process from start to finish. They will make sure everyone knows what to do, how to do it safely, and where they can be most helpful. By the end of the day, you may even feel like an expert!

The families we serve live all across the Tri-County. Some have recently experienced an injury, surgery, or medical treatment that has made a ramp essential. Others have been struggling with unsafe access to their home for a long time, making it difficult or even impossible to leave safely.
Every family’s circumstances are different, but the heart of the work is the same. By the end of the day, volunteers have helped provide neighbors with safe access to the outside world. That may mean being able to get to a doctor’s appointment, visit loved ones, sit outside in the sunshine, or simply come and go with greater peace of mind.
That feeling is hard to beat.
As Gabe says, “it’s truly amazing what happens when people come together for a few hours, you get to see a family’s daily life transform right in front of you.”
Of course, we make sure the day is meaningful and enjoyable for our volunteers too. A ramp build is hands-on, active, and full of teamwork. It’s a great way to step away from your normal routines, work alongside others, and see the real impact of your hard work!
And while your volunteer hours are more than enough, some groups also choose to sponsor the cost of the ramps they are building. On average, a ramp costs about $2,000. Sponsoring a ramp is a powerful way to support the project from start to finish, helping cover the cost while also bringing the hands needed to bring it to life!
