With temperatures nearing 100 degrees across the Tri-County area, reliable access to air conditioning can be essential to remaining healthy at home. Extreme heat can be especially dangerous for seniors, young children, people with disabilities, and neighbors managing chronic health conditions.
Through our Heat Relief program, Operation Home works with local schools and community agencies to distribute window air-conditioning units to households without adequate cooling. These trusted partners help us identify neighbors in need and connect them with assistance as quickly as possible.
This summer, we are grateful to share that Operation Home distributed 700 window AC units across the Tri-County.
Behind that number are hundreds of families and individuals who now have a cooler place to rest during the hottest months of the year. It may be a parent returning home after a long day of work or a senior who is unable to leave home to escape the heat. For these neighbors, a window AC unit can make an immediate and meaningful difference.
Leading this effort is Kendra Wilson, Operation Home’s Director of Community Partnerships & Outreach. Throughout the summer, Kendra coordinates with partner organizations, manages distribution, and even helps load and deliver units to ensure they reach our neighbors.
“When we say we distributed 700 air-conditioning units, we are not just talking about a number. We are talking about 700 households that now have greater comfort and safety during some of the hottest days of the year,” Kendra shared. “I am incredibly grateful for every partner, donor, and volunteer who helped make this possible. At Operation Home, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe in the place they call home, and I am honored to be part of this work.”
The success of Heat Relief is made possible by the many community partners and donors who work alongside us. Even as the summer begins to wind down, the need for reliable cooling remains significant across the Lowcountry.
