Sunday, October 24, 2010
6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Operation Home’s 2010 Drum-It-Up Auction, held Sunday October 24, raised over $126,000. This annual event has become a yearly highlight for Operation Home, and serves as the group’s major source of funding each year. Through generous donations from business owners and individuals throughout the Lowcountry, Operation Home was able to provide over 60 auction items to a capacity crowd of bidders at Mount Pleasant’s Red Drum Restaurant. Operation Home will use the money raised to support their critical home repair program, which is on track to serve 50 families this year. 230 families are on the list and are waiting to be served through this program. The night was split into to events, a silent auction featuring an array of amazing bargains, and a live auction. The live auction included a paddleboard, a mountain house getaway, the chance for bidders to “sponsor” an air conditioning unit for a needy family (72 were sponsored this year), and a vacation package to a Dallas Cowboys v. Washington Redskins football game.In what has become the highlight of every Operation Home auction, a private dinner and wine evening for 10 featuring Red Drum Chef and owner Ben Berryhill was the final item to be auctioned. The Red Drum dinner has become so popular, that this year it sold TWICE for $5,000 each time!
